After being away from Mattawa for school I chose to move home to Mattawa five years ago to raise my family. The quality of life here is exceptional: no traffic, no pollution, slower pace, surrounded by nature and a united community where everyone is your neighbor! We live in a great big park but are still close to North Bay, Ottawa & Toronto. I now have an expanding business that showcases the stunning scenery and small town hospitality that the area is known for. Mel Viau Owner/Operator of Moosehead Estate It was a big change moving from Burlington to Mattawa a year and a half ago to be close to my family in North Bay. Since I have moved here I have had the opportunity to try things I have never done before. I went snowshoeing for the first time last winter and loved it. I am now committed to buying a pair for myself. I have been canoeing before on a lake, but paddling on the Mattawa River is a totally different experience. The river is quiet with very little boat traffic and has stunning waterfalls to visit. The Eau Claire Gorge is a nice place to walk/hike. Life is calm here; there is no need to rush. Kittina Leishman Mattawa Children-Youth-Families Program Coordinator We decided to move to Mattawa from Southern Ontario because it was the perfect place to start our nature based accommodation business. We love sharing our property with guests, surrounded by infinite nature with its peacefulness, the small and warm community and the pace of life. When we aren't busy with work we love to get out snow shoeing, skiing, tobogganing, canoeing, camping, hiking or just taking in the view from our hammocks. We grew up worlds apart with Jen being from North Bay and myself being from Israel, but we have found our ideal lifestyle here surrounded by the almost untouched vast wilderness and a relaxed small town. Tzach & Jen Elnekave Owner/Operators of Nature's Harmony Ecolodge We moved to Mattawa this past fall for several reasons: the warm welcome we received upon visiting Mattawa, the bilingual nature of the community, business opportunities, and the history of Mattawa and Area. Essentially, everything just fell into place for us to make the move here. We love to get out hiking, enjoying nature, horse-back riding and taking in the beauty of the landscape and the surrounding lakes and rivers. Janet Russell Language Services Specialist When we think of Mattawa Voyageur Country, what really stands out are the wide blue skies, endless outdoor opportunities, fantastic scenery and amazingly friendly welcoming people. For these reasons and because it is a forward-thinking community, it was an easy choice for us to relocate ourselves and our IT business here from England 18 months ago. We love being able to walk outside our door and be in wild places within a few minutes, while also having access to all the facilities we need close by. We have really taken a liking to hiking, canoeing, ATVing, snowshoeing, photography and wildlife watching. It has everything we are looking for: plenty of space, wild places and great people.
