Mattawa to Bonfield Scenic Drive |
Escape Highway 17 and take in the quiet rural roads between the towns of Mattawa and Bonfield.
Whether travelling East or West on Highway 17, this is a great opportunity to escape the busy Trans Canada, and emerse yourself in the peaceful countryside between the towns of Bonfield and Mattawa. The trip takes between 1.5 and 2 hours, instead of 30 minutes if taking Highway 17, and winds along both paved and gravel roads. If you have spare time, it is well worth the detour.
 
The thundering falls at the Eau Claire Gorge contrast the peaceful farmlands along the route.
Take in the impressive sight of the Eau Claire Gorge, stop in at the nearby Maxwell Pottery studio and shop in Calvin Township. Remember to be on the lookout for wildlife such as Deer and Sandhill Cranes and Hawks.
