Mattawa is rich with history and culture. Located at the confluence of the Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers, once a major stop on the trade routes of the Voyageurs, many historical explorers passed through Mattawa Voyageur Country during their adventures.
 Take a stroll down Main Street Mattawa, past quaint boutiques, cozy restaurants, the Clermont Duval Art Gallery, and the Mattawa Museum. As you pass the many historic buildings, you will be walking on ground where many great explorers left their footprints. Take in the larger than life handcarved wooden statues of these historical figures offering stories of the past and modern artwork everyone can appreciate. Some of the historical figures include Samuel de Champlain, Grey Owl and his wife Anahareo, Etienne Brule and of course, Big Joe Mufferaw. In the evening, don't be surprised if you hear music coming from live entertainment hot spots like The Moon Cafe, or Le Voyageur Inn. Downtown Mattawa has plenty of free parking and is waiting to be explored!
